Some historical and tourist places of Madhya Pradesh

Amarkantak:

  • Situated in the Maikal range
  • Finds mention in the poetries of Kalidasa
  • Narmada and Son rivers originate from here.
  • There are total 24 temples here. Most of them have been constructed by rulers of Kalchuri dynasty in the 10th & 11th century.

 

Chitrakut:

  • Situated on the border of UP & MP on the banks of river Mandakini
  • According to mythological sources Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh had taken their child incarnations here.
  • During his 14 years’ exile, Lord Ram had also stayed here in this place in the ashram of Maharshi Atri and Sati Anusuiya as a guest.
  • Maharshi Valmiki had also stayed here.
  • Great poet Kalidasa had come here for internal peace.
  • One of the 9 gems of Akbar’s court, Abdul Rahim Khan-e-khan had also seeked shelter here to escape from Jahangir’s anger.

 

Sanchi:

  • Situated in Raisen district.
  • An important Buddhist tourist place.
  • Constructed by emperor Ashoka in 3rd century BC.
  • The only evidence of all forms of Buddhist sculptures in Buddha’s period is found here.
  • The Stupas, Chaityas and Viharas of Sanchi are one of the finest examples of Buddhist Art.
