This index is prepared by Economic Intelligence Unit – the research and analysis unit of the Economist Group. This year report is titled as “A Year of Democratic Setback and Popular Protest”.
It was in news because India’s score fell to 6.9 from 7.23, the lowest since 2006.
The survey published on Wednesday attributes the primary cause of “the democratic
regression” to “an erosion of civil liberties in the country”.
